Make a Wish and Set it Aglow

There is a new immersive installation in the neighborhood that invites visitors to make a wish and Set It Aglow! Now thru January 9th, locals and visitors alike can engage with the new “Star Light Star Bright” installation by attaching their “wishes” to a vibrant, star-shaped structure.

This installation was created by Hou de Sousa, and takes inspiration from the tradition of wish trees. This practice involves people attaching their wishes to special wishing trees in the form of writing, artwork, ribbons and cloth in hopes of having their deepest desires granted. The wish tree installation in Lower Manhattan, takes the form of a star, with 1200 colorful chains lining its frame. Visitors are invited to tie wish ribbons that represent their hopes and dreams to the 75,000 links in the chain. With each new ribbon that is added, the installation grows larger. In addition to using this opportunity to think on our individual hopes and dreams, this also highlights the universal hopes that connect us all.

The installation is located at 140 Broadway and ribbons can be picked up from many neighborhood locations, including The Beekman.
